BULLET BOY (15)
(Br 2004) dir.Saul Dibb 89m.
Ashley Walters, Luke Fraser, Leon Black, Claire Perkins, Sharea-Mounira Samuels,
Curtis Walker, Clark Lawson.
BULLET BOY is a story of two brothers - 12-year-old Curtis and 18-year-old Ricky.
Fresh out of youth custody, Ricky (Ashley Walters) is trying to stay on the straight
and narrow, but on returning home finds himself caught in a street clash. What
begins as a minor confrontation quickly escalates into a series of retaliations
that spiral out of control with devastating consequences. As Ricky sacrifices
family and a new start in the name of loyalty, it seems only a matter of time
before naïve Curtis (Luke Fraser) - in thrall to the allure of his older
brother - will be drawn into the cycle of violence. All it takes is one person
with courage to break a fatal chain of events.
Admission is free for schools' groups.

RIO TAPE-SLIDE PROJECT
The Rio, in conjunction with Hackney Community College, runs a popular Tape-Slide
course in the basement studio, on Fridays 10am - 3pm.
- Are you interested in photography, film
video or installation?
- Do you have ideas you would like to visually
explore, and have screened at the Rio?
- With or without previous experience, this
is the course for you.
Tape-Slide can be compared to film, but has its own elegance and power. It
combines projected images with a programmed or live soundtrack. Tape-Slide shows
are regularly seen at exhibitions, clubs, conferences, and in theatre/ dance
performances.
The RIO TAPE-SLIDE COURSE will develop
your understanding of images, storytelling, storyboarding, sound
mixing, and the relationship between image and soundtrack. It
also provides an opportunity to have your work screened publicly
in 2005.
You will be offered professional technical
and critical guidance, and be encouraged to develop and express
your own ideas.
Graduates have used the experience gained
at the Rio to develop/ further their careers, or gain places
in higher education. Past work has been selected for the London
Film Festival.
- All facilities are available on
site
- Course accredited by the London Open College
Network (LOCN)
- The Rio Tape-Slide Project is jointly
run by the Rio Cinema and Hackney Community College. (Concessionary
fee £7.00 per term)
